Happy Birthday Blog!

#81: 1 Year, 80 posts and Still Going

Happy Birthday Blog!

Those of you who've known me for 5 years or more know that I'm horrible with birthdays. Terrible. I forget birthdays and on the miraculous instances that I do remember them, it's usually a day, a week or a month too late. (In 1993, I even forgot my dad's birthday. He was walking right in front of us the whole morning and when the time came for him to fly to Chicago that afternoon, that's when it all hit us that it was his birthday. No wonder there was a bit of drama going on there.) Anyway, I sometimes try to make up for it in terms of the quality of the gifts I give. But sometimes, even that, I forget.

So I need constant reminders. If your birthday is coming up, please throw a party and invite me. Err. What I meant was, if your birthday is coming up, please make life easy for everyone by dropping idiot-proof hints on what you want to receive. I may not be able to give them to you but at least the detail of your birthday is somewhere in my consciousness floating... And you can always have a blast watching me go through the guilt-trip of still forgetting.

It's then a wonder that I'm remembering my blog's birthday now. I didn't mean to, really. I just felt that something was vaguely familiar with May 26 and I decided to check the date of my first entry. Ah yes. Happy Birthday, blog. Now I'm feeling very smug about outdoing myself this time.

isn't it funny how the blog is oftentimes what you update more often than others? like when i get home, nobody's there or they're all asleep...sometimes you just feel the urge to just tell "someone" about what happened...and viola! the blog is there. pathetic, huh?

O well, HAPPY BDAY BLOG na lang. come to think of it, i started blogging on May of last year as well...what day was that? :D

In essence, you are telling people what happened. The transaction just doesn't happen in real time. They "listen" when it's convenient for them, in the same way that you "tell" when it's convenient for you. I guess everything is moving in that direction - from voicemails, to "On-Demand" flight entertainment, to TIVO. On one hand, it may be sad, but on the other, it can probably just be described as "practical." =)

Then you ought to wish your blog a "Happy Birthday" as well.

Hey, you better wear pearls on EAD's send-off party.

no matter what you do, no matter how many smilies, emoticons and "hehehe's" you put there, it's just not the same...

You can't hear the tone of the voice, the look in a person's eyes...it doesn't have the same effect as the comforting arms of a friend...

While I am thankful that people from far-off places get to talk with each other...and strangers find ways to connect...it seems that because of this, we find "excuses" to find connection from far away places and become totally disconnected with the people near to us...the people at home, our families, friends who are near, boyfriends...etc.

sorry, i have a point here, but i dunno if i am able to drive it or articulate it properly.
